E270 Vulnerability is Sexy and Psychological Safety with Genevieve Georget and Corey Blake

Did you know vulnerability is sexy?

In this #jammingwithjason #podcast I talk with Gen and Cory from Roundtable Companies about #vulnerability, creating #psychologicalsafety so you can feel free to be vulnerable, and how we all have a story to share with the world.

Perhaps you think you don’t have anything special to share with the world, but the truth is some of the most amazing stories are experiences that the world may see as ordinary people who do extra-ordinary things. Plus, sharing our stories helps us and other heal.

There’s a lot packed into this episode.

Genevieve Georget is an executive editor with Round Table Companies and Community Director for Round Table Storytelling Academy. She is also a credited co-author on the new release from Conscious Capitalism Press, Gathering around the Table, with Kari Warberg Block, CEO of EarthKind.

Corey Blake began his storytelling career as an actor, starring in one of the 50 greatest Superbowl commercials of all time (Mountain Dew, Bohemian Rhapsody) and in campaigns for American Express, Miller Beer, Mitsubishi, Wrigley’s Gum, Hasbro, and other name brands. Today, Corey is the founder and CEO of Round Table Companies (RTC), the publisher of Conscious Capitalism Press, and a speaker, artist, and storyteller.

The Value of Knowing the Whole Story

Have you ever had a situation where something made you mad immediately after hearing about it, when only moments later after some explanation you ended up changing your mind about it?
Well you’re not alone! Back story can be just as (if not more) important than the current information you are being presented with, and in today’s episode we’re going to discuss it’s importance!

Is It Time to Pick Another Path?

Have you ever felt like you just can’t bring yourself to do something anymore?

Maybe it’s a job you dread getting up for each day and going in the office. Maybe it’s a relationship that you just get a sick feeling in your gut when you see or think of someone and want to say clear of them. Maybe you just don’t find something fun anymore.

If you are like most people, you’ve experienced some of those feelings.

You’ve probably even asked yourself “should you stick with it,” since you aren’t a quitter, or do you “cut bait” and move on. I know I’ve wondered that many time during my life, and I’m sure you have too.

In this Jamming with Jason podcast episode we jump into a little story time with Jason (yes, I read a little from a book) and discuss things like: a path with a heart, making career changes, and even pink crayons so you can see from my own experience, and that of others, some of the questions you can ask yourself to know if it’s time to persevere and keep moving forward, or whether it’s time to just move on.

From personal experience I can tell you, staying on a path longer than you should can lead to mental and physical health issues, since it can literally kill you.

And there is nothing wrong with you, or the thing you are moving on from, if you decide that’s what’s best for YOU is to move on.

Sometimes it’s just better to move on and not look back.

Here’s the book that I did a little story time from on this episode. I’ve read it a couple of times already, so you will probably find it helpful too: The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda. https://www.amazon.com/Teachings-Don-Juan-Yaqui-Knowledge/dp/0671600419/ref=sr_1_1?

Are You Hiding Like Me??

One of my favorite things to do as a kids was play hide-and-go-seek.

I loved hiding in a great place where nobody could find me. I could just sit there by myself and feel safe and protected. Honestly, most of the time I hoped nobody found me.

As children we don’t have any idea the psychological programming we are receiving when we play games like that where the purpose is to not be found.

We get told that “children are meant to be seen and not heard.”

We know we will get in trouble for doing something we weren’t supposed to do, so we hide what we did from our parent and other authority figures.

We get told you have to do this, or not do that, since the neighbors might say something.

Problem is, we don’t stop those behaviors when we become adults, since those behaviors get programmed into our subconscious brain.

  • Are you hiding who you really are so you feel safe?
  • Are you hiding who you really are so you won’t get in trouble?

I’ve spent a lot of my life doing just that, and if you are like most people, you probably have to.

What I can tell you is it’s exhausting both mentally and physically to keep up and act and go through life trying to please people… especially since usually the people we try to please the most will never be pleased and they enjoy telling us how we didn’t meet their expectations.

It might be a bitter pill to swallow, and you don’t have to believe me, but have you ever done any of these things?

  • Wear clothing that covers your tattoos, piercings, or a body part you don’t want others to see?
  • Dress conservatively in a “corporate uniform” so people will think you are, and so you can fit in?
  • Substitute words like darn, stuff, garbage, or fetch, for what you really want to say out loud?
  • When people ask for your opinion, you tell them what you think they want to hear instead?
  • You let others walk all over you, because “you’re a team player.”
  • Never let your emotions show, since there is just no place for that at work.
  • Do you have one personality at work, and a different one in your personal life?
  • You are afraid if you show people who you really are they will judge you?
  • You are in a job or career that you hate because that’s what others expect.

I’ve been guilty of all of these.

AND I’m sick and tired of it. I’m ready to pull off the mask. The authentic ME is literally dying if I don’t let him out.

Do you feel the same way?

Strap yourself in and let’s stop hiding together.

I will start and you can follow my lead or just observe, where ever you are comfortable starting.

What do you do when the outside world looks like everything is fine, but inside your world is falling apart?

Perhaps you’ve climbed the corporate ladder only to look around and think “WTF” I put my ladder on the wrong building, or climbed the wrong mountain. Perhaps you find yourself on the hamster wheel of life where you are emotionally eating, drinking, buying and realize those distracting behaviors just don’t provide you with the satisfaction you are looking for. They just numb and distract your from what you really want, and what your need to fix in your life.

You are not alone.

The Difference 1% Makes with Luke Layman
https://jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason261/

Most motivational speakers use words like “make massive change,” “set a big harry, audacious goal,” “work until your eye balls bleed.” You get the point, and you are left feeling that unless you scale Mt Everest you are a failure. That’s why so many people never start, or stop quickly.

But what if that is a broken strategy that just sets you up to fail… and the real trick is making the little 1% changes that make all the difference, when you are working from the identity of the person who already has what you want? Seems much simpler and it actually works.

If you are like most people, at inflection points in your life you want to understand yourself better or understand “why” life might deal you the proverbial shit sandwich. Embracing Your Quirks, Kinks and Fetishes with Miss Lila Sage

We all have our little quirks, kinks, and fetishes. Instead of embracing and exploring them, most people live in guilt and shame thinking they can’t express their true self.

In this #fireandearthpodcast #podcast episode we talk with Miss Lila Sage, who people describe as a confident woman who inspires others to create according to their soul’s purpose. A French word sums up her abilities; she is an Inspiratrice.

Thinking, Reflecting and Being Intentional with Mo Issa

I met Mo many years ago when we were both trained to be coaches by Brian Tracy and we have continued our friendship as our paths keep crossing. Mo is one of the most authentic, reflective and wise people I know, so thought it was perfect to have him on the podcast to discuss how to become more self-aware, intentional, and learn how to slow down and relax… things most of us don’t start doing until a mid-life crisis.

Sometimes You Just Need a Little Break Before You Burnout

Have you ever found yourself feeling as if you’re constantly busy, and despite this continuing to say yes to opportunities where maybe you should be saying no?
Well sometimes a lot of us can ascribe our own self worth or importance to how busy we are.
In today’s episode we discuss how it can be very easy to overwork ourselves, and discuss the importance of taking time for yourself.

Laughing is More Effective Than Drugs

ALERT: New Episode This Week

Did you know there are significant health benefits to laughing a few minutes each day?

With all of the scary things going on in our worlds, with all of the stress from work, we often feel heavy and forget to laugh.

You don’t forget to breath, and laughing is just as important.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that “all work and no play makes Jason a very boring boy” and YES sometime I talk to myself in the third person.

I was feeling a little of that recently so I reached out to my friend Sarah Routman to record a Jamming with Jason podcast episode. We were laughing the whole time we were recording, and you will be laughing the whole time you listen, and you will also get some very practical tips to help make each day brighter, and help you feel happy and healthy.

Sarah is a champion of overall wellness, Sarah Routman inspires and motivates individuals and professionals to engage in healthy laughter for a vibrant, uplifting and transformative shift in all aspects of their lives that leads them towards better health and wellbeing.

She believes life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond. Laughter can help keep everything in perspective, and the more we practice it, the better we get at seeing things in a fresh and more light-hearted way.

Tune into this week’s new episode “E267 Healthy Laughing is Where Wellness Meets FUN with Sarah Routman” at: https://jasonmefford.com/jammingwithjason267/

So to finish off this week, here is a really corny knock-knock joke to put a smile on your face:

Knock, knock
Whose there?
Banana
Banana, who?

Knock, knock
Whose there?
Banana
Banana, who?

Knock, knock
Whose there?
Orange
Orange, who?
Orange you glad I didn’t say banana?

So this week, try one of two of the things Sarah suggests, and let me know how it goes.

Here’s to your health, with laughter!
